The location is ideal for those planning to explore Minchinhampton Common, with plenty of parking available. The bar area offers a casual atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and helpful. However, the food menu is fairly uninspired, with two vegetarian or plant-based options. We ordered the pesto broccoli gnocchi and the pan-fried salmon. The gnocchi was decent but let down by the broccoli, which felt more like a garnish than a key ingredient, leaving the dish flat and lacking the vibrancy you'd expect. The salmon was well-cooked and tasted good, but the preparation was very basic and underwhelming overall. A pleasant spot for its location, but the food could use some attention to elevate the experience.

My second time here. Excellent place, beautiful of old building with lots of fireplaces and an excellent menu. This time I took my parents with me. The management and staff are excellent/ very funny. I will be back again. Beautiful views of the valley and common btw (should just mention that).

We could not have had a warmer welcome, what a truly lovely woman on reception Saturday 7th PM and Sunday 8th AM. We booked last minute to escapee the storm, lovely room, we got dinner and drinks delivered to the room via room service which felt like a real treat. Great plant based breakfast. Highly recommend and would visit again. Very well priced for the area. Dog friendly too which I’ll take advantage of next time we visit.

We had our wedding day here, we went with the Bear as we thought the prices were competitive for the attractiveness of the venue, but the big selling point was Amanda the resident wedding coordinator who took a lot of the stress away with her coolness and can-do attitude. The venue itself is beautiful and characterful, the fires were lit and the weather which was terrible, didn't affect us at all. The staff at the Bear seem very acquainted with each other, communicate well and are very efficient and considerate. The Food was top class and there was room for our Ceilidh dance. We had a few comments from guests along the lines of Best Wedding I've been to. I would recommend if you do not wish to have your guests move between multiple locations, the accommodation on site meant that you could park, have a great wedding, and drive home the next day without any stress. Great Venue and we plan to return for many anniversaries

Had a lovely stay in a lovely room. It was great to have the option to have two single beds as I was with my daughter. Loved the décor in the room and the breakfast was very yummy. We will be back

Update 16/09/2024: Ate lunch in the bar area and was alittle disappointed with the menu. Sandwiches or mostly something with chips - scampi and chips, fish and chips, burger and chips - and we ended up having steak and chips. Very nice I might add but they ought to be at £56 for the two. However, our meals were greatly enhanced by a side-order of a £5 Caesar salad which was marvellous and excellent value for money. New photos added. Visited for a late lunch Saturday 23/12/2023 as a little Christmas treat and the special 3-course meals didn't disappoint. As the restaurant was booked for a wedding reception, we were sat in what is known as the reading room situated between the restaurant and bar. It was lovely and full of festive cheer. However, we were originally given a bill showing our set menu as £42 a head instead of the advertised £32. Thankfully we spotted the mistake and the bill was reissued but it was a "mistake" that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Another good lunch yesterday 01/10/2023. Particularly welcome after a hearty walk around Rodborough Common and environs! The servers are all so friendly and helpful and only add to a pleasant couple of hours before walking home again! Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch on 12 Feb '23 in The Bear's restaurant. Pricier than some places but exceedingly good. Service was excellent and the kitchen made us Irish coffees to complete our meal which weren't on the menu. A great result!

Went for Sunday lunch here last weekend. Unfortunately not a great experience. Expensive not great food, missing food and forgetting drinks. Such a shame as heard great things about it. Hope it was just a bad weekend for them. Restaurant had great views but apart from that we won't be returning.

Really poor experience with our roast at the Bear. It came to us pretty much cold, then not one member of staff stopped by to ask us if food was ok. Further issues with the cauliflower cheese - online it says roasts come with it, but we had to buy it as a side share for 2 - but this was barely enough for one… roast potatoes nothing better than average too - and it’s not cheap! 100% will never be eating there again.

Great for meeting family for a morning coffee (excellent accompaniment shortbread) and a walk on the numerous footpaths leading away from the hotel

We went to a friend's 80th Birthday Party at The Bear. Easy parking, easy entrance, lovely reception rooms, lunch with a four table buffet style meal. Beautiful food and drink ~ well chosen by our host. We had a delightful time at The Bear ~ an excellent choice !!

I am a wedding photographer and from the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly accommodating and professional, making sure everything ran smoothly. The venue itself is stunning, with its charming blend of historic character and beautiful surroundings. Whether it’s the picturesque views of the common or the timeless elegance of the interior, every corner of this hotel offers a perfect backdrop for wedding photos. The outdoor spaces are just as impressive, with lush greenery and intimate spots that create the perfect setting for those romantic moments. The lighting inside is soft and warm, creating a magical atmosphere for the ceremony and reception. As a photographer, these little details make all the difference in capturing the day beautifully. I also have to mention how organized and helpful the staff were, not just with the couple but also with vendors like myself. They ensured the day flowed perfectly, which allowed me to focus on getting those important shots. Overall, The Bear in Rodborough is a dream venue for any wedding, and I can’t recommend it enough! I’m looking forward to returning for future weddings.

Recently visited this place on several occasions with my partner and fiancé as we have planned our wedding here. The staff are friendly and helpful from management to housekeeping, everyone is polite and the rooms are really nice and also cater for dog owners. The food is yummy and the environment is really old but with a contemporary twist.

This is a room 51 review. Pillows - massive and too thick to sleep on. Good job I had my own. Shower - if the water pressure had been better.... took way too long due to very poor/weak pressure. Room - spacious with a great view. WiFi - non existent in room 51 Restaurant - best haddock & chips EVER. Well done.

We absolutely love The Bear and spend many nights there for food, drinks & just to hang out. The atmosphere is wonderful and it’s a special place for us; the staff are all friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a night sat out in the garden during summer months with the Cotswold Wildflower Gin (especially if there is a Shakespeare play being held)

Not the place it used to be. The location is unique, excellent for exploring the Cotswolds but REMOTE. You'd expect the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable about things like local taxi service or cabs or places to rent bikes. Forget about offering to get us a cab, they did not know which of the ones on the list they provide are still functional and would not call one - as in No, we won't do that for you!!! The breakfast used to be excellent, a good variety of freshly baked pastries, decent teas - not anymore. All they are about these days are weddings on site. We recommended this place to a couple of groups of friends visiting UK later in the summer and in fall. In an embarrassing turn of events, we will now have to update them with our not-great experience this time around. The dinner menu and food was good.

Struttura tipica molto bella, immersa nella meravigliosa campagna inglese delle Cotswolds. Pulita, personale gentile, ottima e abbondante colazione, presenza del parcheggio, posizione comoda, camera grande. Consigliata

£21 for a mediocre and tiny portion roast dinner. Service is ok.

TERRIBLE SERVICE AND MEDIOCRE FOOD - Went on 18th of June, and I ordered the roast aubergine. I paid £17, the food arrived late, it was half an aubergine and tasted mediocre. My side of potatoes only arrived while everyone else was eating dessert! They offered no discount for the meal or side, despite knowing they’d delivered it so late. Another party member ordered the pizza, which wasn’t good either. Terrible customer service, terrible food; the price does not reflect the standard.
